Choose a photo book if your partner likes printed pictures, wants a gift to unwrap or would enjoy a large collection. Choose a love-story website if a few short clips and selected photos tell the story best, and your partner enjoys opening things on their phone. You can also give a printed card containing the link.
Start with the recipient
Think about what they actually save. Do they display framed photographs? Keep handwritten notes? Rewatch the short videos you send? These observations are more useful than a claim that everyone prefers digital gifts.
A physical gift is not less personal because its pages stop changing. A website is not automatically more meaningful because it moves. The selection, captions and moment you give it are what you control.
Compare the formats
| What matters to you | Photo book | Site4Us love-story website |
|---|---|---|
| A physical object to hold | Printed pages and a cover | Pair the link with a card if you want something to unwrap |
| Moving memories | Check your chosen provider’s digital extras | Up to 4 clips, up to 10 seconds each |
| Photo selection | Book size and page count depend on provider | Up to 8 photos |
| Access | Printed pages work without internet | Browser access while the website is published |
| Preparation | Arrange and proof the pages, then allow delivery time | Upload, write, preview and publish before sharing |
| Changes later | Reprint or make another book | Edit the story within the product’s limits |
Some book providers also offer digital versions, videos or shareable designs. Check the named provider before treating print and digital as mutually exclusive. We maintain separate comparisons for Mixbook, LoveBook and Storyworth.
Try this selection exercise
Make a folder with twelve possible photos. Give each a working caption: where you were, what happened, and why it matters now. Remove the pictures that repeat the same point. For Site4Us, reduce the selection to eight or fewer. For a book, sketch the page order before committing to a size.
Illustrative caption: “We missed the last bus here and walked home in the rain. You made up terrible songs all the way.” A small true detail is enough; you do not need an invented dramatic story.
Budget for the complete gift
Site4Us is free to build and preview. Publishing is £19.99 per month or £199.99 once for Lifetime. The monthly plan renews until cancelled; the pricing page explains the plans. Check your finished preview before paying.
For a photo book, include the selected size, page count, finish, delivery and any additional copies. Check the actual checkout total. For a monthly website, consider how long you want it published. If either option exceeds your budget, a letter and one printed photograph remain a complete gift.
Privacy and keeping your memories
A Site4Us story supports up to 8 photos and 4 videos of up to 10 seconds each, with captions, names, dates, a countdown, a closing message and themes. Optional password protection controls access through a password. Keep copies of your original photos and videos separately. A published website should not be your only copy of family photographs. A printed book also deserves a backup of the original files. Optional password protection is useful for sharing a Site4Us link, but the recipient can still show what they see to others; only include material you are comfortable sharing.
Before giving either gift, check names, dates, spelling, cropped faces and anything another person might find private. Show the draft to a trusted friend only if doing so will not disclose sensitive material or spoil the surprise.
For a website, see the examples and the digital anniversary gift walkthrough. For printed gifts, choose the provider and specifications that suit your photos and deadline.
